ABOUT US
Western’s OCEA team competes in Southwestern Ontario against other universities. Due to popularity, the circuit is split into four zones, and we fall into the West Zone. All four zones come together to compete at the end of the year. There will be around four shows each year plus finals.
The shows are split into four divisions that increase in height. Members are placed into divisions based on show experience and tryouts. There is also a division that does not require show experience so if you don’t have any you are still welcome to try out! Each school is allowed to enter three riders per division, so the team will consist of four or five riders per division.
The great thing about these shows is that you do not need your own horse to enter. Horses are donated by their very generous owners and randomly assigned to riders. There is one flat class and one over fences, with riders getting a different horse for each. The shows are also very team-oriented with awards going to the schools who win the most points as well as those who have the most spirit! They are a great way to keep riding throughout the school year without too much of a time or financial commitment.
